Whatever the cause be, the following are a few natural remedies that have been in use since ancient times. In fact, most of the remedies mentioned have a place in traditional medicine systems such as Ayurveda and TCM.
1. Saltwater rinse
Rinsing with salt water is an excellent natural remedy to treat your toothache, especially if you start it as soon as you get that mild aching sensation. It will primarily help loosen and remove the food particles stuck between your teeth or braces and also act as a natural antiseptic.
Add a generous ½ tsp of salt to a cup of warm water and swish it around your mouth. Spit the contents thoroughly; make sure you don’t swallow any. You can repeat the process twice a day and continue till the pain goes away.
Saltwater rinse is one of the easiest measures you can adopt in any circumstance, such as you, unfortunately, getting a toothache during travel!
2. Clove
Clove has been used as a toothache remedy for ages. It is a natural antiseptic that can also reduce inflammation and relieve pain by soothing the nerves.
Place a piece of clove in the area where it aches and chew on it slowly to release the oils, which will then work its magic.
Alternatively, if you have clove oil at hand, mix it with a carrier oil such as olive oil or coconut oil as available. Then, dab a few drops of it onto a cotton ball and apply on the affected area. Let it stay there till the pain subsides, and then rinse with warm saltwater.
3. Garlic
The antibacterial properties of garlic can treat any bacterial infection in your tooth. It can also help numb the pain.
You can chew on a garlic pod using the affected area or make a paste out of it and apply it. You can also add a bit of salt and pepper to the paste. Allow it to rest in place till you feel pain relief. Repeat it daily till you feel better.

4. Turmeric
Turmeric is yet another spice known for its amazing antibacterial as well as antiseptic properties, which can enable the healing process and relieve tooth pain.
Mix turmeric powder in warm mustard oil to make a smooth paste. Use a cotton ball to apply the paste on the affected area. Allow it to rest for 5-10 minutes and then rinse your mouth with water. Repeat the process once or twice a day till the pain completely disappears.
